Hong Kong Venture Investment and Business Angel Network Limited (“HKBAN”) appreciates the privacy of our users and we are committed to fully implementing and complying with the data protection principles and all relevant provisions under Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486 of the laws of Hong Kong).

What we collect

When you visit our website at www.hkban.org (the “Site”), you need not provide us with any personally identifiable information about you (“Personal Information”). HKBAN is a sharing platform that connects entrepreneurs with our members and network of investors, advisors and professional service providers. If you wish for us to facilitate the connection, our primary area of service, we may need you to provide us with your Personal Information.

This Private Policy Statement (the “Privacy Policy”) covers the use of the Site and services we provide. We recommend that you read this Privacy Policy carefully when using the Site and services. By using the Site, you agree to and accept the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may leave the Site.

You do not have to provide Personal Information to us for using the Site and we do not generally collect your Personal Information while you browse. When we collect Personal Information, we will provide you with our Personal Information Collection Statement, which is available by clicking here.

HKBAN does not provide your Personal Information to any non-member third party without your prior written consent. HKBAN is dedicated to assisting young ventures in obtaining investment funding between seed and venture capital funding stages by holding regular Investment Matching Gatherings (“IMGs”) to help connect investors and young ventures in an investment-matching platform. If you wish to participate in such activities or otherwise use our services, it may be necessary for you to provide us with your Personal Information.

1. Information We Collect About You

1.1 In general, you may visit the Site without telling us who you are or revealing any Personal Information about yourself. We do collect information relating to your navigation to the Site.

1.2 When you visit this Site, a range of information is collected and processed for the purposes of navigation on this Site, or to make browsing more functional and easier. Such information includes but is not limited to:

The nature of Personal Information collected may vary depending on the features you use on this Site, such as registering as a member of HKBAN through the Site, subscribing for services, and opting in or out of newsletters or other communications.

1.6 Please note that as a sharing platform, we will allow members and registered entrepreneurs who logged onto the Site limited access to other members’ email address. No Personal Information or other information of other members or registered entrepreneurs is accessible.

2. How We Use the Information We Collect

2.1 If HKBAN collects Personal Information, you agree that we may use information for any and all of the following purposes:

inform you about and ask you to join IMGs or similar investment events
invite you to matching platforms where HKBAN is the organizer or one of the organizers of such platforms
inform you of potential companies whom you have shown an interest for investment so that they may contact you directly or you contacting them directly to follow up a connection
inform other potential angel or VC investors who are interested to co-invest in the same potential investees that you have indicated an interest to co-invest
inform you about angel, venture capital, investment, and entrepreneurial related events such as seminars, presentations, panel discussions/clinics, or conferences where we are the organizer, co-organizer, sponsor, supporting organization or partner of such event
conduct research and analysis about your use of, or interest in, our services, or content, or products, services or content offered by others
communicate with you by email, postal mail, and/or electronic devices about services that may be of interest to you
enforce our terms and conditions
manage our operation and perform functions as otherwise described to you at the time of collection

2.2 In addition to Personal Information, we also collect, store, handle and analyse other information such as record of online activities through our Sites while you visit our website.

2.3 We would like to use your Personal Information to send you information about our activities and services and we will obtain your consent to do so. If you do not want to receive such materials from us, please send us an email to [email protected]. You can also unsubscribe from our mailing list via the link at the bottom of our emails.

2.4 We will retain your Personal Information for as long as required to fulfil the purpose for which they were collected. Thereafter, we will delete the Personal Information in our storage.

3.1 You can choose not to provide us with your Personal Information, but that may result in your being unable to use certain features of our Site.

3.2 You may choose at any time to cancel or terminate your authorisation to our use of your Personal Information and request that we delete your Personal Information in our storage. Please see “How to Contact Us” below or by clicking here.

3.3 When we collect your Personal Information, we will obtain your consent in a clear, explicit and specific manner. You will be fully aware of what Personal Information we intend to use and the purposes of such usage (such as improving our services or enrolling you in IMGs); and the user of the Personal Information you provide (such as a potential investor, co-investor or investee company) and how such user may use your Personal Information.

4. How You Can Access Your Information

You have a right to access and correct any Personal Information about you that is incorrect or inaccurate and to update such Personal Information. To access, correct, or update your Personal Information, HKBAN members and entrepreneurs may do so directly on the Site by logging in and making such changes directly. 5. How We Protect Your Personal Information

5.1 We take security measures (including physical, electronic, and procedural measures) to help safeguard your Personal Information from unauthorised access and disclosure. Only authorised individuals are permitted to access Personal Information and they may do so only for permitted operational procedures.

6. Outsourcing arrangements

HKBAN does not have its own employed staff. In addition to providing HKBAN with office space, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (“HKSTP”) provides HKBAN with the administrative, operational and technical services we need to operate. HKSTP also developed and maintains the Site. HKSTP staff members handling HKBAN matters are bound to keep confidential any data they come into contact with against unauthorised access, use and retention.

7. Links to Other Websites

The Site may contain links to other websites that are not owned or controlled by us. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other websites. This privacy statement applies only to the Site.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

8.1 We will occasionally update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices and services.

8.2 When we post changes to this Privacy Policy, we will revise the “Updated” date at the top of this Privacy Policy.
